The GapMethod by Role Readiness

Free assessment · no card · no account needed

What is actually stopping you getting this job?

Paste the advert for one role you would genuinely apply for. The Gap Method scores your application against every requirement in it and gives you a number, four dimension scores, and a written report naming each gap and how to close it.

  • Eleven minutes, most of it reading rather than typing.
  • Scored against the real specification, not a generic job title.
  • Every point shows its working, so you can argue with it.

How the score is built

A published rubric, not a mystery number.

Everybody is scored on the same four dimensions with the same weights. You can see them before you start, which is the only way a score is worth anything.

Where your total lands

  • 0–39 — Not yet in the running. There are real skill gaps. Applying harder will not fix them.
  • 40–59 — Close on paper, losing at the screen. The most common band, and the fastest to move out of.
  • 60–79 — Shortlist-capable. You will get interviews. Specific proof moves you up the pile.
  • 80–100 — Front of the pack. Stop editing and start being selective.

Your biggest single win

You have run continuous improvement projects for six years and the advert asks for it twice. It appears once in your application, in the ninth bullet of your second role. Moving it to the opening line is worth more than any course on this list.

Your two real gaps

ISO 9001 working knowledge — named as essential. Nothing in your history touches it. ~9 hrs to a credible free short course.
Board-level reporting — named as desirable. You have done the analysis but never presented it upward. This is an evidence and framing job, not a training one.

Your score, with the working shown

Every dimension score is broken down against named lines from the advert, so you can see exactly which requirement cost you what.

Gaps sorted into two piles

Things you need to learn, and things you already have but never showed. They take completely different amounts of effort and most people work on the wrong pile.

A prescribed route for each real gap

Specific free training from universities and awarding bodies, with an honest estimate of hours. The shortest credible route, not a reading list.

The one change worth making first

Ranked by score movement per hour of effort. If you only do one thing, this is the one.

Sample figures shown for illustration. [PLACEHOLDER — swap for a real anonymised report once you have one.]

Before you start

What this is, and what it is not.

It is a diagnosis

A measurement of the distance between your application and one specific job specification, with the reasons attached.

It is free, permanently

The assessment, the score and the written report cost nothing. There is no card step hidden at the end.

It is not a job board

We do not advertise roles, hold your application, or send anything to an employer. Nothing you paste here leaves us.

It is not a guarantee

No score guarantees an interview. Hiring depends on the market and the competition. This tells you what is in your control.

Questions before you start

The ones people actually ask

Why do you need a specific advert?

Because "Operations Manager" means five different jobs in five different companies. Scoring against a title produces generic advice; scoring against a specification produces a list of named requirements you can do something about. If you are not applying yet, use the closest advert you can find to the role you want next.

What if my score is low?

Then it was low before you took the assessment and you simply did not know. Band 1 and Band 2 scores are the ones with the clearest next actions, because there is something specific to fix. A high score is often the less useful result.

Can I score myself against more than one job?

Yes. Each advert produces its own score, and the comparison is genuinely useful — the same history often scores twenty points apart against two adverts for what looks like the same job.

Will I be sold something at the end?

You will be shown what we make, once, at the end of the report. The report is complete and useful whether or not you buy anything, and we would rather you used it and told somebody than felt cornered.

What happens to the advert and details I paste in?

They produce your report. They are not sold, not shared with employers or recruiters, and not used to advertise you to anybody. You can delete the assessment and everything in it whenever you like.

One advert. Eleven minutes. A straight answer.

You have almost certainly spent longer than that rewriting a single paragraph and hoping.
